Sangath, Goa is offering a two week course titled 'Leadership in Mental Health', in collaboration with London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK, Schizophrenia Research Foundation (SCARF) Chennai, India, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and Centre for International Mental Health, University of Melbourne , Australia .

This course has been designed to equip participants in the methods to develop and scale up interventions for people with mental disorders in communities, based on a population model (i.e. to achieve maximum coverage in an administrative unit such as a district).

The course is designed to build capacity to meet the goals of the Movement for Global Mental Health (www.globalmentalhealth.org) and the Lancet series on global mental health 2007.

For the last two years, participants of this course consisted of mental health professionals, general physicians, policy makers, representatives of funding agencies, humanitarian agency workers, NGO staff, epidemiologists, anthropologists and members of the user community.

The course is structured in three parts,

and participants will expect to learn the following:

Part 1: Why scale up coverage of effective and affordable care for mental disorders?
Part 2: How to scale up coverage for specific mental disorders?
Part 3: What are the details of the leadership skills for scaling up?

ICOHRTA Fogarty Training Opportunities for Psychiatric and Behavioural Disorders Research

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bangalore, India, in collaboration with the Washington University Department of Psychiatry offers post doctoral training opportunities in psychiatry and behavioural disorders under the ICOHRTA Fogarty Training Program. This provides an opportunity for MDs, PhDs and junior faculty with a MD in psychiatry or PhD in behavioral/allied sciences for further training in research. Both short term (1-6 months) and long term (1-3 years) fellowships are available. Training involves mentored research at Washington University. Trainees who complete a 12-month fellowship will be eligible to conduct independent research in India.

Eligibility:
Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling and Guidance, or Psycho Social Rehabilitation

Duration:
1 month to 3 months.

Course:
Orientation to family therapy, lectures, discussions, seminars, tutorials on theoretical topics, role plays, video demonstrations, observation of family therapy under supervision, and case discussions.

The candidate should apply to the Director of NIMHANS, Hosur Road, Bangalore - 560029, India, mentioning the time (starting in the months of February, May, August and November), which she/ he would like to start the training. Advanced Certificate Course in Family Therapy (NIMHANS):
