Dr. (Brigadier -retd) SB Chatterjee

Our senior Fellow, Dr. (Brigadier -retd) SB Chatterjee, left for his heavenly abode on Dec 29th, 2009 at Kolkata. He has been a Past President of Indian Psychiatric Society, East Zone.


Dr. D.C. Mishra

Dr. D.C. Mishra, senior fellow based at Rourkela in Orissa, passed away in December 2009. Dr. Mishra was a pillar of strenghth for IPS - Eastern Zonal Branch and served as the Treasurer of the zonal branch for three years in mid-eighties. He was instrumental in organizing the Zonal Conference at Rourkela in 1986.


Dr. Krishna Roy

Dr. Krishna Roy of the Institute Of Psychiatry, Kolkata, passed away on 29th October 2009, suffering from a very recently diagnosed cancer.


Dr. V. N. Bagadia



I am deeply grieved to inform you about the sad demise of Dr. V. N. Bagadia. He was one of the legends in Indian Psychiatry, more so in the West Zone. He was also one of the pioneers in creating psychiatric awareness among people in our zone. It is a great loss to our fraternity.

Let us pray to The Almighty to give strength to his family members to tolerate this great loss

May his soul rest in peace.

Dr. K. L. Narayanan



Dr. K. L. Narayanan, Senior Consultant Psychiatrist from Kolkatta passed away on 10 April 2008. He suffered a massive cardiac arrest.

He had been actively involved in all the IPS activities. He was the representative from the East zone in the central IPS for the current year. Most members recall the excellent work he had done during the ANCIPS 2008, Kolkatta, as the chairman of the Scientific committee.


Dr. Jayanta Chatterjee



Dear Colleagues,

It is with deep regret and profound sorrow, we have learnt about the sad demise of Dr Jayanta Chattejee (Kolkata). He was one of our senior Fellows and was deeply involved in IPS activities. He was Chairman of the Forensic Psychiatry Section of IPS in 2003-05.

Under his able leadership, a National Seminar on Forensic Psychiatry was organised in Kolkata on 5 Dec 2004, with the Theme: "Divorce and Mental Illness".It was a big success. I had the opportunity to getting closely associated with him at that time. He had tremendous commitment and showed attention to detail. It was unforgettable, that he received us personally at the Kolkata airport with bouquets in hand, even at midnight!

It was his personal qualities that endeared him to all those who knew him. In his death, we have lost a great friend and a perfect human being. We express our deepest condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.

Got married on 6th March 1987 has three children, (two sons and one daughter)
Joined West Bengal Health Service in 1984 in the district of South 24 parganas.
There after he worked at Alipore Special Jail from 1994 to 1996. In 1996 he joined as Psychiatrist at Midnapore district Hospital and worked there till 2005. From 2005 to the last day he was working as Medical officer at Calcutta Pav lov Hospital.

Throughout his working period he was sincerer and helpful towards his clients.
