News from the Editor’s office

01 April 2010

Greetings and Regards!

I am very happy to inform you that we have completed the posting of Indian Journal of Psychiatry Jan-March issue 52(1) 2010. The posting of ICONS of Indian Psychiatry, a supplement, Annotations of Indian Psychiatry Vol No.1, and the DVD to the authors has been completed. April-June 2010 issue so also the April supplement are in the final stages of preparation.

Field Editors

1. We have limited number of copies of Annotation issue, ICONS OF INDIAN PSYCHIATRY issue and a DVD of Annotation issue. This is available to members on first come first serve basis who request to accept the same by VPP for Rs. 200/-. Please write to me ASAP.

2. As you all know, even though we wanted to keep up the time lines at IJP, it was getting indeed delayed for various reasons. In fact, we have a big set of backlogs which need to be looked into. I am confident a through look will be given to the pending articles in our website so also all the new submission will be preliminarily reviewed for acceptance within a fortnight for further processing. This has become an absolute necessity in view of the overwhelming number of new submissions being received at the journal office. We have enlisted the help from the following esteemed members as SPECIALITY FIELD EDITORS to co-ordinate the work:

3. We are planning to put up an EXHIBITION and also a special supplement on ICONIC INSTITUTIONS OF INDIA at ANCIPS 2011 at New Delhi. Currently, I am collating the list of Institutions in India to proceed further. Please write to me with the reference ICONIC INSTITUTIONS OF INDIA for incorporation of the institution, your interest to write on them and the possibility of providing heritage photographs, snippets, write-ups of general interest etc. on them.

4. We are bringing out a special supplement on CHILD PSYCHIATRY under the guest editorship of Dr. Philip John. Special supplements can be considered if sponsorships are available and this invitation is open to all our esteemed members.

5. The Annotation of Indian Psychiatry which was released at ANCIPS 2010 is undergoing intensive editorial review. I hope to see that it is accessible at our website very soon. In the meantime we are attempting to see the further review on the similar line in others publications elsewhere. I will be back to you soon with the details.

6. As permitted in the general body and in post AGB EC meeting, I am working on the idea of a depository. The details will be presented in due course.

Again, wishing you all the best for the New Year. Personally, and on behalf of the editorial team I solicit your constructive suggestions for the improvement of our journal.

Long Live IJP & IPS

Dear all,

Greetings from the Editor,

At the outset, I am grateful to you for the confidence and the responsibility bestowed on me. I am writing this to inform and update you about the progress for the journal:

  • The Oct-Dec 2007 issue of the IJP, which was distributed in ANCIPS 2008 at Kolkata, has been posted to all the members who did not collect at Kolkata personally from the Mumbai office of Medknow. If you have not received the same by this month end please contact Medknow for the missing copies at:
    E-mail: subscriptions@medknow.com.
The journal can be viewed at our website www.indianjpsychiatry.org.
  • The Commemorative volume released at Golden Jubilee Celebrations at ANCIPS 2008 at Kolkata: The final printing of remaining copies should be over by coming Monday. Mr. Zani Mia of M/s Crescent Pharmaceuticals, Hyderabad has taken up the cost of posting the issue to all the members who did not pick up the issue personally at Kolkata. The copies should reach you by this month end or 1st week of March. Please contact me if it has not reached you after those dates.

Meanwhile, the commemorative volume is available at the journal website www.indianjpsychiatry.org as December supplement. Please visit. You can also view the same at our IPS website www.e-ips.org
  • Journal 50(1) is almost finalized and it is in the final process of author corrections. I am confident we should be able to start posting the issues by early march.
  • As you are aware, we had sent a mail in June 2007 requesting your permission and details for inclusion in the panel of reviewers. We had received a few mails in that regard. However, we are updating the reviewers list and we want your whole hearted involvement in the review process. The attachment sent herewith details your profile in the standard format, which is needed for the peer review process. Kindly fill up the same at the earliest for inclusion in the review panel directly at

www.indianjpsychiatry.org/joinus.asp which is preferable or to my email editor@indianjpsychiatry.org or my personal E-mail ID tssrao19@yahoo.com. I look forward to your association.
  • Any suggestions for further improvement of the journal are most welcome.

Dr. T.S. SATHYANARAYANA RAO.
